Thousands of women SHG members of KSSS gathered at central level and took out in processions to promote awareness and campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, to be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination on 8th March 2016. The SHG members moved region wise with each region conveying a coordinated Women’s Day message for the onlookers. The rally which started at Caritas Junction was flagged-off jointly by Kottayam Assistant Superindent of Police Dr. Karthikeyan Gokul Chandran IPS and Dr. Prameela Devi J. (Member, State Women’s Commission).

After refreshing themselves the SHG members assembled in the auditorium for the public meeting. The programme was inaugurated by Shri. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan (Minister for Forests, Sports, Cinema, Transport and Environment) in the presence of Mar Mathew Moolakkatt (Kottayam Archdiocese Bishop) and other special dignitaries in the dias. The message for the eventful day was delivered by Dr. Prameela Devi J.

Amidst the public meeting, financial aid was given to Mrs. Ramla Nishi of Samkranthy village suffering with cancer under the Asakiranam Cancer Suraksha Programme and trophy was awarded to Kaduthuruthy Region members for best performance in the day’s Rally.

After the public meet, the Tug-Of-War competition was conducted between KSSS’ Regional teams comprising women SHG members of mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law. At the end of a series of thrilling tugs, KSSS’ Kaduthuruthy team emerged as winners and KSSS’ Malankara region bagged second position.
