Health is a state of complete physical, social, and mental well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Within the context of health promotion, health has been considered less as an abstract state and more as a means to an end, which can be expressed, in functional terms as a resource for everyday life.  ‘My Healthy Family’

Health insurance is insurance against the risk of incurring medical expenses among individuals. KSSS had initiated the ‘My Healthy Family’ Insurance Scheme in collaboration with National Insurance Company Ltd. in the context of the Centenary of the Kottayam Archeparchy. A total of 7269 families were insured under the programme and an amount of Rs. 75,30, 314/- was given as claims to 1677 families.

Along with inculcating the insurance culture, this scheme acts as a small relief to the health issues and accidents occurring in daily life of the villagers. It was this vision that motivated KSSS to promote the scheme. This scheme has acted as an aid to Elsamma James of Apacheril house, Mattekara village. Elsamma James’ husband who was the daily breadwinner died in an auto accident. As per the scheme if the breadwinner passes away within the insurance period, the family would receive an amount of 25,000/- as claim. Elsamma James received this amount from the Archbishop of Kottayam, Mar Mathew Moolakkatt
