International Widows’ Day is observed annually to address the plight of widows and to recognize their situations. KSSS observed this day at Chaithanya Pastoral Centre with KSSS’ Navomi group members comprising widows, abandoned and living in singlehood with family burden. Adv. Mons Joseph MLA inaugurated the programmes and Fr. Joseph Kaduppil (Vicar, St. Thomas Church, Cheenkalel, Kottayam) led the seminar.
An eco-friendly competition held on the occasion that delighted the participants was Jackfruit slicing competition. Equal weights of unripe raw Jackfruit pieces were given to each of the seven contestants from seven regions of KSSS. The ladies were to pull out the carpels clean them and slice the jackfruit. Mrs. Geetha Sahadevan of Areekara village of Uzhavoor region emerged the winner of the competition. Cultural programmes were also organized on the day.
