FAMILY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Family Development Program (FDP) is a remarkable scheme under save a Family Plan Project, Canada. The program aims at building self-sufficient communities by empowering families through timely support and financial assistance. The Family Development Program works to partner with the under privileged societies in India. Each partnering family is aided for a period

of 6 years. Working with 39 partner organizations, the FDP reaches families in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. Kottayam Social Service Society is one amongst the partnering organizations that implements the Family Development Program. Every year, the lives of hundreds of families are changed through the incredible generosity of our caring donors. Save A Family Plan continues to shower blessings upon hundreds of families through the generosity of our benefactors, coordinators, animators, and field workers. KSSS activities that empower families to break out of the poverty.

SENIOR CLUSTER MEETINGS

Senior citizen Group members of KSSS from different villages met together in Cluster Meetings. These meetings were conducted to enrich the activities of group members, mainly through experience sharing and exchanging of ideas and thoughts and thus maintain the freshness and dynamism in the groups. Along with the group meeting physiotherapy treatment, classes and camps on health awareness etc. were also conducted and all this helped to create a difference. Classes organized included topics on old age, health issues, eating habits and lifestyle. Participated members were given a chance to get benefit of physiotherapy treatment.

20 NEW SENIOR CITIZENS GROUPS WITH HELPAGE INDIA SUPPORT

20 Senior Citizens groups were newly formed in the operational areas of KSSS with the support of Help Age India in 2012. Periodic Evaluation of group activities and formulation of future action-plan was also carried out in the various villages. Resources persons from Hel Age India directly visited the villages and evaluated the group activities

FAMILY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME – (SAFP)

UNDER THE SAFP PROGRAMMES IMPLEMENTED IN TIE-UP WITH SAFP KSSS IMPLEMENTS THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES

CAPACITY-BUILDING& MOTIVATION TRAININGS

Trainings are arranged every month in Central and Regional gatherings to empower Partner families. Topics include parenting in Teenage, Seasonal diseases, healthy lifestyles, Family Budgeting, Kitchen gardens etc.

MONTHLY HOUSE VISITS & GUIDANCE TO FAMILIES

Monthly house-visits serve to monitor and guide the beneficiary families for sustainable development. Regular house visits have been found to give excellent opportunities to help the partner families with support services. Discussions and frequent visit are done by coordinators and animators which in turn help to make future plans.

COUNSELLING TRAINING TO VILLAGE LEVEL SPONSORS

Two-day training in counselling was provided to village level sponsors (animators) for making the house visits more effective and fruitful. Overall, 58 sponsors from various target villages participated in the Training.

PROMOTION OF INCOME GENERATION PROGRAMMES

One of the major components of FDP is to promote Income generation programmes among the beneficiaries. The monthly assistance from SAFP mainly utilized for starting IGPs. Entrepreneurship Training is provided and IGP is monitored from time-to-time to ensure timely completion.

KARSHAKA DAMBATHI SANGAMAM

(Centenary Farmer-Couples’ Meet)

In order to diffuse effectively the celebration spirit of the Archdiocesan Centenary to the farmers’ community at the grassroots, Farmer-Couple get-togethers were conducted at KSSS’ Regional levels. This approach of promoting the farmer couple was also a result of KSSS’ priority placed upon preserving the family unit and enhancing familial bonds.

KUDUMBA SANGAMAM

To develop a “Family gathering” of the SHG members and their family members, KSSS started a new intervention named ‘Kudumba Sangamam’ (Family get together) in its operational villages.

COUNSELLING AND GUIDANCE

Counselling and guidance services are given free-of-charge to the ordinary villagers by professionally qualified staff at KSSS. The services are intended for those who are suffering with problems in life.

YEARLY PLANNING AND BUDGETING WITH THE FAMILIES

Each FDP partner family is provided with Rs. 900/- per month as financial aid. This amount is granted for livelihood purpose, education assistance, and medical treatment, for constructing basic amenities and starting small IGPs. FDP animators and field staff do monthly house visits during which they help the families to frame their annual plan and prioritize the purposes for amount withdrawal. Apart from this they are provided with orientation at the central office.

REGIONAL GATHERING OF PARTNER FAMILIES

Every year as part of the project activity, KSSS organizes Regional Gatherings of Partner Families under the Family Development Programme. Regional Gatherings were conducted in all regions. Classes on ‘Communication in the Family’ & ‘Income Generation Programmes’ were conducted by Sr. Preethi SJC & Ajeeshmon Joy (Project Coordinator, KSSS). Subsequently, there were sharing by the families. The Gatherings were conducted as a half day programme in all regions and they dispersed after tea. A total of 206 partner families participated in the Regional Gatherings.

INCOME GENERATION PROGRAMMES FOR PARTNER FAMILIES

KSSS organizes awareness classes for the Partner Families to initiate IGPs with the amount received under monthly assistance. They are provided with guidance as to how to create sustainable income generation opportunities.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR FDP FAMILIES

Aiming at the integral development of the socially backward families, KSSS in association with Save a Family Plan organized an entrepreneurship development training programme for FDP families. Mr. Alto Antony (Programme Officer, Save A Family Plan) presided over the programme. Classes on Sustainable Income Generation Programmes and marketing opportunities were led by Mrs. Mercy Stephen and Mr. Gigy Joy. Mrs. Merlin Tommy (Programme Officer KSSS), Mrs.Jancy Santhosh and Mrs. Bincy Philip (FDP Animators) led the programme organized for FDP members.

SAVE A FAMILY PLAN BENEFICIARY MEET

KSSS in association with Save A Family Plan India organized Partner Families Meet of FDP families in Edackat and Malankara region. Ms. Merlin Tomy (Programme Officer), Mrs. Bincy Philip (FDP Animator), Mrs. Jancy Santhosh (FDP Animator) organized the programme. Mrs. Mary Philip (Resource Person) led a seminar on economic independence through entrepreneurship as part of the meeting.

INCOME GENERATION PROGRAMME FOR PARTNER FAMILIES

KSSS took special initiative to provide Entrepreneurship Training and awareness class for the partner families to find IGPs with the amount received under monthly assistance to solve their poverty-related issues. The introduction of IGPs for partner families helps to strengthen the process that promote economic development and create an environment for social change.

SEMINAR ON ‘ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT’

The annual gathering of SAFP Partner Families from KSSS operational areas was organized in the month of August, 2017 at Chaithanya Pastoral Centre, Thellakom. The main focus of the program was on basic amenities, Self-employment programmes, welfare activities for education & health and other trainings schemes for the beneficiaries. The gathering was inaugurated by Mr. John Cyril (Program Team Leader, SAFP), Fr. Sunil Perumanoor (Executive Secretary, KSSS), Jins K. Joseph (Program Coordinator SAFP), Jithin Abraham (Program Coordinator, SAFP), enlighten the Entrepreneurship Development Seminar was organized at Chaithanya Pastoral Centre, Thellakom for partner families under Save A Family Plan project of KSSS with an aim to develop enterprises from these families. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. Zakharias Kuthiravely (President, Kottayam District Panchayath) and presided over by Mrs. Anns Varghese (Panchayath President, Athirampuzha). Fr. Sunil Perumanoor (Executive Secretary, KSSS), Fr. Bibin Kandoth (Asst. Secretary, KSSS), Mr. Jins N. Joseph (Programme Coordinator, SAFP) delivered speeches. The seminar organized on ‘Novel & Sustainable Income Generation Programmes` for the economic empowernment of the beneficiary families was led by Mr. Cyriac Joseph Paramundayil. The programme showcased a participation of 110 entrepreneurship.

Partner Families from KSSS operational areas was organized in the month of August, 2017 at Chaithanya Pastoral Centre, Thellakom. The main focus of the program was on basic amenities, Self-employment programmes, welfare activities for education & health and other trainings schemes for the beneficiaries. The gathering was inaugurated by Mr. John Cyril (Program Team Leader, SAFP), Fr. Sunil Perumanoor (Executive Secretary, KSSS), Jins K. Joseph (Program Coordinator SAFP), Jithin Abraham (Program Coordinator, SAFP), enlighten the audience with their valuable words in the occasion. During the meeting formulation of annual action plan and evaluation of yearly activity of each family is carried out as part of the program. 95 partner families attended the get-together implemented with the aim to enable livelihood for overall development of economically backward families.

Livelihood, Education and Health Development Programme

KSSS conducted the financial support programme for the partner families to ensure the good health, education and income generation activities to uplift the families. 25 families got the opportunity to be part of this programme. Through this financial assistance they will be able to overcome their current financial crisis during this Pandemic Covid-19. The programme was carried out through Cheque Distribution. The programme was inaugurated by Auxillary Bishop of Kottayam Archdiocese Geevarghese Mar Aprem. The presidential address done by Kerala Social Service Forum Executive Director Reverend Father Jacob Mavunkal. The welcome speech done by KSSS Executive Director Father Sunil Perumanoor and vote of thanks by KSSS Assistant Director Father Mathews Valiyaputhenpurayil.

REMEMBRANCE DAY OF MONSIGNOR AUGUSTINE KANDATHIL AND DISTRIBUTION OF EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE CHILDREN

Monsignor Augustine Kandathil was the founder of Save A Family in India in since 1965. As a part of Death Anniversary of Monsignor Augustine Kandathil, KSSS conducted a remembrance to pray for the departed soul. Through Remembrance Day KSSS provide educational support for the Children those who are part of Family Development Programme. It was very helpful for the children to buy study materials or mobile phones for their online education. Many of the partner families got the opportunity to study their children. The Remembrance Day was inaugurated by Kottayam Metropolitan Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkat. Father Sunil Perumanoor (Executive Director, KSSS), Father Mathews Valiyaputhenpurayil (Assistant Director, KSSS), Shyni Philip (Kottayam Municipal Counselor), Lowly George (Ettumanoor Municipal Chairperson), Carlton Fernandez (LACIM National Coordinator) was part of this programme.

SELF-EMPLOYMENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMME

The Self- Employment Entrepreneurship Programme mainly for the Women headed families. Many of the partner families are women headed and they are capable of doing Self – Employment Entrepreneurship Programmes for their income generation activities. KSSS conducted this programme as a helping hand for the partner families to improve their quality of life. Metropolitan Archbishop of Kottayam Mar Mathew Moolakkatt inaugurated the programme. KSSS Executive Director Father Sunil Perumanoor, KSSS Assistant Director Father Mathews Valiyaputhenpurayil, Athirampuzha Grama Panchayat Vice President Mrs. Alice Joseph, Kottayam Municipal Counselor Mr. T C Roy were participated in this programme.
