World Elders’ Day is dedicated to remember our elders in society and remind us of the need to take care of them for a sustainable society. On the occasion of World Elders’ Day on 1st October 2011, KSSS organized various events for the Senior SHG members at Chaithanya. The meet was inaugurated by the Hon. Revenue Minister Sri. Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan.
Msgr. Mathew Elappanickal delivered a message on “Elders in Today’s Society” and Fr. Gibil Kuzhivelil took a Class on “Elders in their Family”. The model of 14th Annual Fest Coupon was released amidst the function. Wickerwork competitions were conducted for the Senior Groups, which included broom-making, basketry, bag-making etc. Along with this various cultural, art form competitions, seminars and discussions took place.
‘Grandpa & Grandma’ Reality Show programme for elders was conducted under the leadership of Senior citizens from various regions of KSSS. The main purpose of this program was to provide a platform for Elderly to display their talents. An exciting hunt was conducted among the elders to find the Senior citizen member who had the highest number of children and grandchildren and the winner Mrs. Mariakutty Ittiyaviraye was specially honored.
Ms. Mariakutty John Mekkattil from Areekara village emerged to be the winner in the lucky draw conducted during the day to find out the Luckymost elder among the assembled.
